Not to be Served

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. ~ Mark 10:45

In this season, it seems like the simplest of things can get submerged below arguments that often seem to turn reality upside down.

I want to invite us to the simplicity of the message of Jesus.

The Son of Man – Jesus – did not come to be served, but to serve.

Jesus came to serve.

Jesus – our God, our model, our Savior – did not assert his rights.

Jesus came to serve.

Instead, Jesus served. He loved. He washed his disciples’ feet to show them that they too should wash one another’s feet. He had compassion for people, for humanity. He spoke truth to power, yes, and showed mercy to the humble. He forgave. He healed. He set people free.

And, in the ultimate act of love, Jesus laid down his life.

In this season, may we learn to serve.
